Signals 2 Noise - Art, Aesthetics and Social Practice of 16 Community Radios from Eastern, Northern and Central EuropE
18 hours - 16 radios - 1 festival: Signals2Noise, a celebration of community radio
Signals2Noise is an 18-hour festival celebrating the art, aesthetics and social practice of 16 community radios from Central, Eastern and Northern Europe. Taking place on October 4, 2024, S2N presents live music, radiophonic interventions, installations, talks, DJ sets, filming screenings, workshops and more.
In times of an increasingly fragmented media landscape, and resurgence of censorship and obstruction of free access to information by state and corporate actors, community radio keeps diverse voices heard. S2N aims to amplify these voices, and support new and existing connections among radios and their audiences.
S2N is hosted by the Berlin-based experimental community radio Cashmere Radio, in cooperation with the online platform Easterndaze. It follows 3 in-person exchanges between community radios in Spring 2024, presenting their contributions and alongside guest speakers and performers.
Participating radios: Black Rhino Radio (Bucharest), Cashmere Radio (Berlin), Gasoline Radio (Kyiv), IDA Radio (Tallinn), Kanal 103 (Skopje), Lahmacun Radio (Budapest), Radio Aparat (Belgrade), Radio Kapitał (Warsaw), ORANGE 94.0 (Vienna), Radio Plato (Minsk/Vilnius), Radio Punctum (Prague), Radio Študent (Ljubljana), The Lake Radio (Copenhagen), Tīrkultūra (Riga), 20ft Radio (Kyiv), Dublin Digital Radio

CASHMERE RADIO
Cashmere Radio is a not-for-profit community experimental radio station based in Berlin-Wedding. The ambition of the station is to preserve and further radio and broadcasting practices by playing with the plasticity and malleability of the medium. We do this by both honouring and challenging its inherent qualities: it is both a physical station open to the public and an online radio; it has regular shows, yet opens itself up to extended and one-off events; it features extended generative music performances and installations at the same time as working within radio’s typical durations. In short, it is an attempt to enhance and celebrate the performative, social and informative power of radio that we believe lies within the form itself. The radio can be heard 24 hours a day, seven days a week on cashmereradio.com, and on Friday and Saturdays via the 24/3 Radio Netzwerk on FM 88,4 MHz / DAB+ Channel 7D in Berlin and 90,7 MHz / DAB+ Channel 12D in Potsdam and Brandenburg.
