Berlin is the capital of club- and subcultures, where dreams of freedom and creativity can come to life. But these free spaces are threatened by gentrification, unaffordable rents and an increasing lack of space—and local and global crises make it hard to see a sustainable vision for the future of club culture.
But in an increasingly polarized present, club culture remains a diverse place of refuge, community and optimism, where new worlds are being created. How do we stay bold, initiate change, transcend boundaries, genres and norms? How do we create places of strength, calm, and connection? How can club culture offer a sense of hope in challenging, chaotic times?
TAG DER CLUBKULTUR is back for its fifth edition, again recognising the efforts and dedication of Berlin’s club culture. 40 clubs and collectives will once again be honored for their special cultural work and the programs, spaces and communities they create within Berlin's club culture.
For the first time this year, three newcomer prizes and an honorary prize for exceptionally involved personalities in Berlin's club culture will be awarded. All award-winning as well as interested clubs and collectives will present their own events throughout Berlin as part of the interdisciplinary Club Culture Festival Week from October 3 to 10, 2024.
TAG DER CLUBKULTUR was launched in 2020 by the Clubcommission, the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe as well as Musicboard Berlin. Today it is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion as well as Musicboard Berlin. Originally conceived as a sign of life for Berlin's clubs in times when their existence was threatened, TAG DER CLUBKULTUR has since become an established cultural award and festival that honours the cultural and artistic commitment of Berlin's clubs and collectives each year.
