About
TAG DER CLUBKULTUR is an award, a festival, and a cultural-political statement.
The project was initiated in 2020 by Clubcommission Berlin e.V. with support from the Senate Department for Culture and Europe and Musicboard Berlin, as a signal of cultural recognition and solidarity in the midst of the pandemic. Today, TAG DER CLUBKULTUR is a firmly established part of Berlin’s cultural landscape. In 2025, it will take place for the sixth time, organized by Clubcommission Berlin and funded by the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion as well as Musicboard Berlin.
The project honors outstanding clubs and collectives from all genres and disciplines that shape Berlin’s cultural life with vision, artistic excellence, and a strong sense of values. Through its annual award and public festival week, TAG DER CLUBKULTUR celebrates the diversity and global relevance of Berlin’s club culture while advocating for its long-term visibility and recognition.
Each year, Berlin-based clubs and collectives can apply for the award through an open call. The application process acknowledges both permanent venues and location-independent collectives, recognizing them as two essential pillars of Berlin’s club culture. In 2025, an independent expert jury, divided into two panels for clubs and collectives, will select 31 awardees across five categories: Programming and Curation, Community Engagement and Social Cohesion, Aesthetics and Spatial Design, Commitment to Diversity and Sustainability, and Newcomer. The awards are endowed with 20,000 euros each for clubs, 10,000 euros for collectives, and between 5,000 euros (for collectives) and 10,000 euros (for clubs) for newcomers.
The accompanying festival week, taking place throughout Berlin from October 3 to 12, 2025, is an open platform from the community for the community, aiming to make the wide-ranging actors and practices of Berlin’s club culture visible. Independent of the award process, the festival invites participants from across all genres and disciplines to develop and present events throughout the city. From raves, concerts, and performances to panels, exhibitions, workshops, and more, the festival creates space for experimentation and visibility. Event proposals can be submitted online, and applicants are encouraged to interpret the annual theme freely in both form and content.
In 2025, the festival will be shaped by the theme Bridging Realities – 35 Years of Movement, marking the 35th anniversary of German reunification, a historic turning point for Berlin’s club culture both past and present. The theme invites clubs and collectives to explore how club culture functions as a bridge between experiences, scenes, subcultures, generations, and realities.
