THE BRIDGE THAT'S OUR BACK - ASHAWO CAFE
Building bridges is innate in our culture. 'The Bridge That's Our Back'
is a cultural weekend of interdisciplinary celebration connecting our
spirits. Oct 10-12 we will:
*Honor Audre Lorde’s The Berlin Years w/ a screening, celebrating the
bridge she built between Black German and diasporic communities.
*Showcase Ghana’s first openly Trans Sex Working artist Angel Maxine,
with an album release where she sings about using Berlin as the bridge
to her safety.
*Screenings of Sex Worker films such as Tangerine and Shakedown
accompanied w/ poetry open mic where community members are encouraged to
participate.
Collective meals and a reintroduction to our community offerings and
planned activities for our community centered programming will foster
public engagement & ensure access to concrete resources.

THE BLACK SEX WORKER COLLECTIVE (BSWC gUG)
The BSWC is the only Black Sex Worker collective in Germany founded
by AND led by Black Sex Workers, permanently committed to the liberation
of Black people & the full decriminalization & destigmatization of
Blackness and sex work. Since 2020, we have been a strong presence in
Berlin with a global influence; highlighting the work and history of
Black Sex Workers while shifting political frameworks on health,
immigration, and housing. We are the only existing group of Black
H’ors who, with both permanent and floating members, create live art
that is transgressive, rigorous, and deepens public discourse on sex
work.
