INWIEFERN Müssen wir in unserer Bewerbung auf den Themenschwerpunkt eingehen?
The thematic focus is to be understood as an impulse or an aid to help you take a closer look at your previous work and your visions. Specifically, it should guide you in the creation of your event. Based on this year's theme Beyond Tomorrow – Remaining Hopeful In Chaos, the task is to develop an event concept for the festival week in October. The way in which you interpret and take up the theme is completely up to you.
HOW ARE CLUBS AND COLLECTIVES AWARDED?
An independent board of trustees, consisting of five people representing different perspectives, disciplines and backgrounds of Berlin club culture, decides on the awarding of the prizes:
Chinwe Nnajiuba aka Juba, Gizem Adiyaman aka Meg10, Mark Reeder, Tal Se and Haidar Darvish aka The Darvish.
The decision of the board of trustees on the award is based on the quality of the club's or collective's cultural work to date, its significance for Berlin's club culture and the assessment of the submitted application documents on the basis of the content-related and overarching funding criteria.
WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM CRITERIA FOR THE EVENTS ON THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
The Board of Trustees attaches particular importance to diversity and equality in booking, as well as fair wages and support for local artists. Instead of flying in headliners for the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, residencies and the local (club) cultural scene are to be strengthened. Therefore, interdisciplinary and intersectional programming, diverse and gender-parity lineups, viable security concepts as well as overviews of the recommended fees of the participating artists are desired. (see conditions of participation)
DO WE NEED A FIXED LOCATION WHEN SUBMITTING OUR APPLICATION?
We do not expect a fixed location commitment. However, a possible location is part of an event concept. Therefore, ask yourself beforehand which location could fit your program and try to get in touch. If you have serious problems finding a location, please contact us.
IF WE HAVE ALREADY BOOKED A LOCATION FOR THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR - WILL THIS BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN SCHEDULING THE FESTIVAL?
Yes, of course! It is our goal to fill the entire time period with events, but we will definitely take your availabilities, bookings, and scheduled dates into consideration.
SHOULD THE EVENT THAT TAKES PLACE DURING THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR LAST THE WHOLE TIME FROM OCTOBER 3 TO 10?
That is up to you. Your event can take place on one of these days, but it is also possible to organize an event that runs longer, takes place on different days or lasts the entire period. If you plan to start your event on the evening of October 2, this is also possible.
CAN TWO COLLECTIVES, A CLUB AND A COLLECTIVE, OR TWO CLUBS APPLY TOGETHER?
Yes, this is possible. This means that in case of an award you will also share the prize money and the trophy. Please make it clear in your application why you are applying together. Professional, programmatic, and artistic connections, a shared event history, or shared values may help the Board of Trustees better understand your joint application.
IN WHICH LANGUAGE CAN WE APPLY?
You can submit your application in both German and English. We have developed the entire application process in both English and German. We will have the applications translated into the respective other language for the Board of Trustees afterwards. Should you wish to do the translation yourself, you are very welcome to do so and submit the additional language version as a pdf via the application form. However, please note the character limits (of course, these apply to the language versions individually).
WHAT ABOUT COLLECTIVES THAT DO NOT YET HAVE A LEGAL FORM?
First and foremost, we must be able to understand that you have been active for at least one year. At the same time, we need to know who is part of your collective, what activities you have implemented and what you plan to do in the future. The legal form is secondary.
IS A BUDGET PLAN FOR THE EVENT OF THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR PART OF THE SUBMISSION?
A budget plan is not mandatory, but it will help the Board of Trustees to better understand your approach. Nevertheless, the budget plan will not be part of the jury's decision. This is and will remain based on curatorial and artistic principles.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PART OF THE COMMUNICATION AND DOCUMENTATION AROUND THE TAG DER CLUBKULTURUR IN CASE OF AN AWARD?
We will present all awarded collectives and clubs as well as their planned events on the communication channels of TAG DER CLUBKULTUR (website, Instagram, Facebook, newsletter). In addition, our photographers will visit your event and we ask you to document your event with photos as well. If you receive an award, we will inform you in detail about the texts and images we need from you.
WHAT CAN THE AWARD BE USED FOR?
In principle, the money is available for free use, no proof of use is required. One possibility, for example, would be to use the money as deductible to future funding programs. Likewise, the prize money can be used for programming, for building measures or to improve the structures of your organization. It's up to you and you don't have to answer to us.
DOES THE PRIZE MONEY HAVE TO BE USED TO FINANCE THE EVENT AT THE TAG DER CLUBKULTURUR?
No, the prize money is not earmarked. You can use it as you wish.
SHOULD THE EVENT ON THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR BE RELATED TO THE MAIN TOPICS OF THIS YEAR'S CALL FOR ENTRIES?
Your event concept for the festival week in October should be based on this year's theme "Beyond Tomorrow - Remaining Hopeful In Chaos". The way in which you interpret and take up the theme is completely up to you.
CAN I ORGANIZE A DEMONSTRATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR?
Demonstrations may not be financed by public funds. Of course you are allowed to plan a demo as part of the TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, but in this case you will need to prove that the prize money will not be used to finance it.
WHAT IF MY EVENT FOR THE TAG DER CLUBKULTUR CANNOT TAKE PLACE AS PLANNED?
Please contact us in time and we will try to find a solution together. However, if the planned event cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances, this will not affect your award and prize money. These will remain with you.
CAN WE CHARGE ADMISSION?
You can offer free admission to your event or sell tickets in advance as well as at the door. Depending on the format, please make sure to charge admission to your event in a way that allows financial accessibility to as many people as possible. Your door and admission policies, as well as the ticketing system, if applicable will be up to you to decide.
WHAT CRITERIA ARE APPLIED WHEN ASSESSING APPLICATIONS?
In addition to the programmatic profile of the club or collective, as well as its significance for Berlin's club culture and the quality of its work to date, the board of trustees also takes into account relevant overarching criteria. These include, for example, the promotion of emerging clubs and collectives, diversity and awareness, innovation, collaboration, sustainability and more.
See Conditions of Participation.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE NEWCOMER AWARD?
All applicants who have been active in Berlin's club culture for at least one and a maximum of three years are automatically eligible for the Newcomer Award, unless they are already one of the 40 clubs and collectives honoured. You go through the regular application process and fill out the regular application form. This means that you do not have to apply for the Newcomer Award separately. The prize is aimed at young actors who bring new and progressive impulses and are just starting to help shape the cultural landscape of the city. The selection of the Newcomer Award is also decided by the Board of Trustees.
